Welcome to Elizabeth Seton Faculty!
This is our Wikispaces Classroom. You may be wondering what a wiki is. A wiki is a collaborative workspace. Think of Wikipedia. It's probably the most famous wiki.
Wikis are easy to use and add to. There are a number of projects that you can do with your students on a wiki. For example, my incoming Honors English I students are reading the first two books in the Percy Jackson series. All of them have received gods/goddesses to track, and they have received handouts and a video tutorial on how to access and use our class wiki. For part of their summer reading, they'll be interacting with each other as they read the book and they will building a Percy Jackson wiki where they will identify what they learn about mythological characters from the novels. Once the school year starts, we'll be looking at real mythological texts to see if the Percy Jackson author, Rick Riordan, was accurate in his portray of the gods, goddesses, and monsters in the first two books.
You can use these education wikis to communicate with students in a number of ways, including:
- Announce, schedule, and discuss in your newsfeed at the bottom of this page.
- Create projects -- with optional start and end dates -- for assignments and topic areas.
- Add pages, files, and more from the top right of every page.
- Assess student engagement in real time.
Hopefully, your experience in our Professional Development wiki will help you gain comfort in using Wikispaces in case you want to use it with your students.
