In addition to taking part in the technology professional development, faculty will be doing some individual professional development using the text Classroom Instruction That Works by Marzano, Pickering, and Pollock. You will have content to review each month and brief activities/blog post discussion. I don't want this to be "extra" work. I am hoping that this will only enhance your daily teaching and allow our faculty to be on the same page with pedagogy since many have come to teaching from other backgrounds and careers.roadrunner logo.jpg

We will begin working with this text and its ideas on one of our August Professional Development Days. Please review chapters 1-3 before we meet in August.

Our ongoing “class” will be posted on our Google Site and we will have a class blog in our school Edublogs subscription.

We will tackle a chapter of reading and one or two relevant activities per month. I promise it won’t be too intense. I want you to be be creating lessons and assignments that you will actually use with your students. Part of the reason we are doing it in an online is to help you become more comfortable with some of the technology that I will be introducing to you in the technology sessions.

Marzano Text Reading Schedule
September: Chapter 4
October: Chapter 5
November: Chapter 6
December: Chapter 7
January: Chapter 8
February: Chapter 9
March: Chapter 10
April: Chapters 11-13
May and June: Create plan for incorporating some strategies into your classroom

Activities
Activities to complement the reading will be posted monthly on the Google site and most activities will be posted on Edublogs. The reason for this is so that you can see what each other are doing and learn and borrow from each others' ideas. Feel free to comment on each others' work throughout the year. You are expected to complete the assignments and reading each month, but you can do them whenever you want. If you meet every deadline and do all of the required work, you will be rewarded with an extra personal day next year.
